We excitedly share the news that twenty-four (24) Civil Society Organizations have benefited from CS-SUNN’s on-going Capacity Building for Civil Society Alliances on Proposal Writing/Resource Mobilization for the Sustainability of the alliance in Kano state. The just concluded training which held in the first week of February 2022 drew representatives from the CS-SUNN Kano state chapter Alliance including organizations like Nutrition International, Federation of Muslim Women Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Center for Community Health Development and Health (COHED), Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Human Empowerment for Life Program (HELP) and Society for Women and Child Health Initiative ((SWOCHI) amongst others.
The training was aimed at strengthening the state chapter on proposal writing and resource mobilization and supporting the chapter to develop a fundable plan (that aligns with the PINNS 2.0 project), implement the plan and report regularly as part of their programmatic contribution to attaining PINNS 2.0 objectives.
Some participants affirmed that the training has positioned the CS-SUNN Kano state chapter for effective resource mobilization through writing winning grants/proposals. Binta Hussein Ali, the CS-SUNN Kano State Chapter Coordinator said “we have really benefited from this training and Kano state chapter is poised to get grants from the knowledge gotten from donor mapping and project proposal writing”. “We have learned quite a lot from SWOT analysis to PESTLE analysis to the six stages of planning for resource mobilization. Kano state chapter has been equipped with the requisite knowledge for proposal writing and resource mobilization and we shall utilize this knowledge to ensure we get grants from donors” said Ahmed Tijjani – the state chapter Secretary.
Media participants were not left out. “The five-day training on proposal writing/resource mobilization has provided me with an in-depth insight on proposal writing, the strategies and requisites of the art” said The NUJ Chairman, Kano State Chapter, Abdulgafar Oladimeji.
Prior to this resource mobilization workshop, CS-SUNN state chapters have been mostly dependent on the national office for funding to implement state specific activities and have in other cases annulled such activities where funding was unavailable. CS-SUNN has a mission to mobilize non-state actors to advocate, build capacity, and generate evidence towards scaling up nutrition in Nigeria. Moreover, to achieve the above, it is paramount that the CSAs are strengthened at all levels to optimally function and implement nutrition interventions. It is therefore expected that at the end of the training, the CS-SUNN state chapters will become empowered with skills and capacity to write grant winning proposals, positioning them to mobilize and secure funds for the implementation of nutrition interventions in their various States. The training has been conducted in Lagos, Niger and Kano states and will be replicated in Nasarawa and Kaduna states.
