Ahead of the 2023 budgeting process, the Niger State Committee on Food and Nutrition has successfully developed the state’s 2023 Annual Operational Plan (AOP) from the State’s Multisectoral Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition.
CS-SUNN recently supported a meeting of the Niger State Committee on Food and Nutrition (SCFN) to develop the 2023 Nutrition AOP for the state. Earlier, CS-SUNN had commissioned a study on the level of implementation of the Niger State Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition. The report of the study identified gaps in planning and funding of nutrition programmes in the state. The gaps identified and recommendations, topped discussions during the 2023 AOP development meeting, all geared towards improved funding for better implementation of nutrition policy and plans in order to eradicate malnutrition in Niger State.
The Honorable Commissioner, Niger State Planning Commission, Mr. Zakari Abubakar, appreciated CS-SUNN for their untiring and continuous support towards achieving a malnutrition-free State. He stated that part of the State Governor’s strategic priorities and reform agenda is to improve Maternal and Child nutrition and quality of life for Nigerlites. Also speaking, Mrs. Ramatu Umar, the Permanent Secretary, Niger State Planning Commission disclosed she had to suspend the budgeting process in her MDA to ensure the SCFN developed the State’s 2023 nutrition AOP and urged participants to put in efforts for the prioritization of interventions that will malnutrition in Niger state.
A total of 30 participants cutting across Permanent Secretaries and Directors from key Nutrition Line MDAs, the State Nutrition Officer, key nutrition implementing partners and media attended the meeting which featured presentations, discussions, break-out sessions and group works to develop and finalize the Annual Operation Plan.
