Lagos State government has joined the PINNS focal states to launch its state policy on food and nutrition and State Multi-sectoral Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition. The policy was launched in October 2021 at a formal meeting organized by the state’s budget and planning commission with support from CS-SUNN. The meeting which drew about eighty participants from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Development partners, Private sector and media was aimed at unveiling the Lagos State Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action on Nutrition (LSMSPAN), the State Policy on Food and Nutrition and mobilizing resources from stakeholders for its implementation.
The state commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Sam Egube said the launch of the policy and plan is a major stride in the state government’s effort towards addressing malnutrition and hunger across different levels in Lagos state.
Participating organizations made various levels of commitments towards the effective implementation of the policy. A representative from Spectra Industries said “we shall support in the area of capacity building on food processing and packaging” while the Lagos Food Bank Initiative spokesperson said “as we have been doing, we will help with supply of nutritious food for free and capacity building”.
In the coming months, CS-SUNN will work to strategically drive the state government towards the full implementation of the policy and plan in order to improve the nutritional status of Lagos residents.
