The Wife of the Kaduna State Governor, Her Excellency, Aisha El’Rufai has called on
all states in Nigeria to place high priority on nutrition to improve the cognitive
development of children. She made the call in a special remark during CS-SUNN’s
Media Roundtable on EFB: Changing the Nigerian Story held recently in Abuja.
According to her, Exclusive Breastfeeding enhances the infant’s immune system and
strengthens development of the child.
Earlier, CS- SUNN Chairman, Dr. David Olayemi disclosed that there is need to improve
the Exclusive Breastfeeding rate in the country. He added that the World Health
Organization expects that by the year 2025, Nigeria will achieve 60 percent rate of
Exclusive Breastfeeding.

draw public attention to the state of Exclusive Breastfeeding in Nigeria.
disseminate CS-SUNN’s Exclusive Breastfeeding video
call for action to bridge the remaining gaps in policy, programs and funding for
EBF in Nigeria.
generate commitment from policy makers including wives of governors for
improved EBF interventions
create a nucleus of media advocacy movement in support of Exclusive
Breastfeeding in Nigeria.
increase visibility of Exclusive Breastfeeding among Nigerian Media
Health reporters across broadcast and print media were among participants. The
National Union of Journalists (NUJ), Media Against Child Malnutrition (MeCAM) among
other media associations urged CS-SUNN to engage more with media organization
owners for improved visibility for nutrition issues on the country.
