The MPTF Project
CS-SUNN was awarded the Multi Partner Trust Fund (MPTF) grant from February 2015 for a period of 12 months, to implement the project “Mobilizing and Strengthening Civil Societies to Scale up Nutrition in Nigeria”. The Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN) was the lead organization implementing the project. The MPTF grant provided the crucial support to the coalition to mobilize Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to take actions that will effectively tackle under-nutrition in Nigeria, in alignment with the Nigeria’s National Strategic Plan of Action for Nutrition (NSPAN, 2014 – 2019).The Objectives of the Project
- To strengthen CSOs in Nigeria to scaleup Nutrition through public awareness and campaign
- To support existing policy, legal and budgetary frameworks to be more accountable to meet the national needs of Nigerians ·
- To enhance experience sharing and learning between and within organizations.
Expected Outcomes:
Outcome 1: CSOs in Nigeria are identified, mapped and have enhanced capacities to be effective, in integrating nutrition into their programs while contributing to the national policies on Nutrition.
Outcome 2:CS-SUNN contributes to public awareness and national consensus about the problems of malnutrition and their solutions
Outcome 3: CS-SUNN contributes to policy, legal and budgetary frameworks that address the needs of the most vulnerable
Outcome 4: CS-SUNN strengthens in-country accountability for progress in tackling under-nutrition
Outcome 5: CSO networks enhance learning between organizations and between countries and maximize the effectiveness of their efforts.
The MPTF Project
Establishment of Local Working Groups in Kwara, Adamawa, Gombe, Kebbi, Sokoto, Anambra, Enugu, Akwa-Ibom, Delta, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory.

Activities delivered on the project:
- Identification, Mapping and Mobilizing of CSOs thereby developing a compendium of registered CSOs
- Forums to finalize the rules of engagement, and select state CSA focal points, and constitute local working groups on budget, policy and legal framework.
- Support the alliance to implement the key interventions through the development of action plans.
- Adapt existing advocacy, print and electronic documentaries to use for public awareness
- Build capacity of member organizations on nutrition policies, advocacy and communication.
- Use existing fora to create public awareness on national nutrition policies
- Conduct quarterly high-level media engagements (Press briefing and release, roundtables, and high-level nutrition events.
- The Local working group (LWG) participates in budget, policy and legal processes at National, state and LGA levels to ensure that Food and Nutrition ‘asks’ of the people are reflected in such documents
- LWG conduct Advocacy & Stakeholder consultations with local communities, authorities, & parliamentarians
- CSA conduct analysis of national /state level data from MNCHW, SMART and NDHS to monitor and evaluate progress on Nutrition at the states and LGAs.
- Print and disseminate monthly bulletins and newsletters and others.
